Bio

Yvette Borja is a staff attorney at the ACLU of Arizona. She focuses on challenging unconstitutional conditions in immigration detention facilities in Arizona. Prior to joining the ACLU of Arizona, Yvette was a staff attorney at the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project on the adult detention team helping pro se respondents defend themselves in their deportation proceedings. As the first person in her family to graduate from college, Yvette earned a BA in American Studies with distinction from Yale College in 2014. She then graduated from Stanford Law School in 2018. She has interned for Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor, Legal Aid at Work, Centro Legal de La Raza, and Pangea Legal Services. Yvette hails from the Bay Area and is the daughter of Salvadoran asylum seekers who fled the civil war in the 1980's.
