Bio

Makayla LaRonde-King is a Paralegal at the ACLU Voting Rights Project in New York. She joined VRP as a Legal Administrative Assistant in 2021. Makayla graduated cum laude and with distinction from Yale University, where she majored in Political Science. While at Yale, Makayla was an Undergraduate Human Rights Scholar at Yale Law School’s Schell Center for International Human Rights and a 2020 Director’s Fellow at the Institution for Social and Policy Studies. She spent three years as a research assistant with the Yale Departments of Sociology and African American studies evaluating data surrounding racial and criminal justice—including instances of lynching, domestic violence, pretrial detention, and police and prison misconduct. Prior to joining the ACLU, Makayla also interned with the Bronx Defenders and volunteered with the Lowenstein Human Rights Project in New Haven and the Tahirih Justice Center in Baltimore.
