Deborah Hall is a Public Services Librarian Adjunct at Houston Community College Southwest. She started out to become a teacher of English and History. Upon graduation, she discovered that there was an oversupply of teachers at the time so she considered her options. After taking a battery of tests, she discovered her affinity for library work. Deborah packed up my bags and returned to the University of Texas (Austin) to pursue a Master’s Degree in Library Science. She was hired by Houston ISD upon graduation and worked in various libraries over the district. She worked in elementary, middle, and high schools all over the district. The last ten years she spent in overseeing the automation of the school district and training the librarians in the use of the automation system. Throughout her career, Deborah has been active in the Texas Library Association and the American Library Association. After retiring in 2011, she has been working part-time in the local community college library and consulting with a charter school to create libraries in their new campuses. When not working in a library, she has been a library advocate for all libraries, but especially Houston ISD. Currently she's focused on rallying troops to protest the takeover of the school district by the state and save school libraries from being closed by the appointed superintendent.
