Bio

Carl Charles was a Skadden Fellow at the ACLU LGBT & HIV Project from 2014 to 2016. He graduated from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law where he served as a Vice President of the Student Bar Association, Co-President of the DU Outlaws, and as a student attorney in the Criminal Defense Clinic. Carl has experience in LGBT advocacy with a focus on transgender youth and adults impacted by the criminal justice system. During law school he interned with New York Civil Liberties Union, the Meyer Law Firm, the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force, the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Middle District of Alabama, and the GLBT Center of Colorado. Carl's fellowship at the ACLU focused on developing the law for transgender and gender-expansive youth who are homeless, in out-of-home care, and in the juvenile justice system.
